GIS Day Planning Committee Meeting Notes
March 8, 2012
Attendees:
- Trae Cooper
- Heather Kelley
- Kurt Kruger
- Kevin Lacefield
- Tim McGee
Notes:
Participation:
Trae conducted an outreach to last year committee to see who would be continuing on this year. Ashlee and Walt have passed this year. Besides those in attendance, Pete Dellavalle, Courtney Ellerbusch, and Pat Kowta will continue. Mike Lane is waiting on the outcome of his employers reorganization before and committing, and we’re still waiting to hear back from Nancy Miller.
Roles:
Kevin reviewed the roles defined at the last meeting and the responsibilities for each. The current status of these roles can be found in the org chart.
Survey Results:
We reviewed the results of Kevin’s survey to the user group of those that attended and didn’t attend last year’s results. Kevin will be posting these results to the website. Kurt discussed the positive feedback received from admin, faculty, and students at Piner.
Venues:
The pro’s and con’s to hosting this year’s event at Piner again were discussed. Kurt has concerns about hosting it there again this year given the level of coordination necessary to pull it off and the pending construction of the Geospatial Center possibly breaking ground this summer. The following sities were discussed:
- Finley Center – Has worked well in the past. Good proximity to feeder schools of Piner. Good proximity to continuing audience from Sonoma County. Approx $900 price tag will require sponsorship.
- Santa Rosa JC – Event would be constrained to a couple of classrooms and hallways
- Vets Building – Available, but also would involve a fee
- Petaluma Community Center – Has the possibility of drawing more participation from Napa and Marin Counties, but also risks losing existing attendance from Santa Rosa area. $500 price, but with the potential to be offset through barter
After some discussion, a desire not to lose existing momentum built up by last year’s event led the group to choose Finley Center as its first choice for this year pending further research on cost, The Petaluma Community Center will stay reserved as a backup.
Calendar:
The project calendar was reviewed with no new items added
Next Meeting:
